Module 08 focuses on techniques for involving care givers and children in decision-making in child protection proceedings.
This module holds that voluntary interventions in child protection – but also decisions without consent of parents and/or children – are more effective if professionals and family members act as co-producers, if parents and children decide themselves how they want to change their situation, with professionals setting the frame if necessary. Participation of parents and child in decision making results in better outcomes for all participants, i.e. increased safety and improved well-being of children. The module teaches how to involve parents and children in decision-making. It takes into account that parent and child participation is influenced by several factors, such as living conditions, and characteristics of parents and children and of the professional. It shows ways to build client-worker alliances and to include participation in the basic principles and procedures of professionals and organisations.
