Module 11 is about working with minorities and seeks to enhance cultural sensitivity in interventions in families in vulnerable situations.
Culture and cultural diversity refers to people who identify with particular groups based on different characteristic. Children’s belonging to their culture develops their identity. All children are vulnerable by nature, but some children are more vulnerable than others, they need special attention. Having a strong sense of one’s own cultural history and the traditions associated with it helps children build a positive cultural identity for themselves and adults supporting them. Professionals have to learn dealing with diverse cultural backgrounds, being aware of their own as well, and support the especially vulnerable children to be protected and fulfill their potentials.
